Cataracts, or a clouding of the eye’s lens typically associated with age, can cause blurry or distorted vision and other symptoms. Dr. Phillips performs advanced cataract removal surgery using the no-stitch, no-needle approach for a shorter, more comfortable recovery. He also offers a range of intraocular lens implants to restore the eye’s focusing power.
Refractive surgery procedures like LASIK permanently reshape the cornea to correct refractive errors for clearer vision. Most patients discover their dependence on glasses or contacts is significantly lessened, if not eliminated, after LASIK surgery with Dr. Phillips.
Management and Treatment of Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an extremely common eye disease. Characterized by elevated intraocular pressure, the disease can lead to substantial vision loss and blindness. Dr. Phillips can manage and treat glaucoma using several methods, including special medicated eyedrops, laser and traditional surgery.
Meet Dr. Phillips
Dr. Phillips received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from State University of New York Stony Brook College of Medicine. He completed an internship program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency program at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Phillips then completed a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship program under the tutelage of Dr. Arthur H. Wolintz, former ophthalmology professor and department chair at SUNY Downstate.
Dr. Phillips earned the respect and admiration of peers and patients alike as an early adopter of the no-stitch and no-needle cataract surgery technique, which shortens recovery time and allows patients to resume work and other activities more quickly after surgery. Dr. Phillips was also an early proponent of multifocal and accommodating lenses, which enable patients to see clearly at all distances after cataract surgery without glasses or contacts.
